VSUM provides powerful design, monitoring and tuning
capabilities for z/OS VSAM catalogs and data sets. VSUM
provides five major functions, which will simplify many
of the routine and complex tasks necessary for effective
VSAM data set design and management. VSUM can be executed
either online or in batch mode.
The five major functions of VSUM are:
* An extended catalog search/list function to provide
intelligent search capabilities based on over 100 individual
catalog search parameters
* A data set modeling and design feature to provide
a simpler and more effective method for designing
all types of VSAM data sets
* A data set recommendations feature which will make
tuning and design recommendations for data sets being
listed or analyzed
* A data set space utilization analysis and backup
option to interrogate a complete or user-specified
part of a VSAM data set and produce a variety of
valuable statistics
* Batch data set analysis reports can be generated
from statistics that can optionally be saved by VSUM
Summary
VSUM will save your personnel many hours of valuable
time. The hours spent scanning VSAM catalog listings
and performing complex space calculations for new and
existing data sets will be greatly reduced. Improved
DASD space utilization and job run performance improvements
will be achieved through the efficient design and tuning
of existing data sets.
